Bulk SMS not sending: checks that usually fix it

Bulk SMS not sending: checks that fix it

TL;DR: When bulk SMS is not sending or stays queued, check account verification (email, ABN, 2FA), credits remaining, and that every number is Australian. Then open Sent reports and the dashboard to read failed, no receipt, and queued statuses before you resend.

Check these first

Work through this list in order. Most “nothing is going out” cases stop at one of these steps.

  1. Finish verification before you send. You cannot complete signup without 2FA. You also cannot send until email is verified and ABN is verified from Account settings. Gmail and other non-business email domains can need extra human checks. SMSFlow is for Australian businesses with a valid ABN and an Australian mobile on the account.
  2. Confirm credits remaining. Billing is per credit, not strictly one credit per message. Longer messages can use more than one credit. Open Account → Billing, check the balance, and top up if needed. See pricing for how credits work. New signups get 50 free credits once the account is ready to send.
  3. Use Australian mobile numbers only. Paste or select recipients carefully. Invalid, landline, or non-AU formats will not deliver the way you expect. Fix the list, then send again.
  4. Confirm the send actually left (or is still waiting). Open the dashboard for your date range and note queued, failed, no receipt, and delivered. In Reports → Sent, filter by status and review the rows (optionally with message content). Queued often means the job is still processing or waiting on schedule/credits/verification rather than “lost.”
  5. If you scheduled the message, check the schedule report. Open Report → scheduled messages. Confirm timezone and time. You can cancel a scheduled send; you cannot edit one in place. Cancel and create a new send if the content or list was wrong.

Optional: Try SMSFlow free when you need a clean verified account and 50 starter credits.

What the statuses usually mean

The dashboard shows sent, delivered, failed, no receipt, queued, received, opt outs, and click through for a date range you choose. Sent reports let you filter by status and sort columns. There is no export and layouts are not customisable, so use filters in the browser.

  • Queued: Still waiting to go out, still processing, or held up by schedule timing, credits, or account checks.
  • Failed: The platform recorded a failure for that recipient. Fix the number or list hygiene, then send a corrected batch.
  • No receipt: No clear delivery receipt came back. Do not assume instant delivery; wait and re-check the same report window before you blast the whole list again.
  • Delivered / sent: Useful proof the path is working for other rows in the same campaign.

If only some rows fail, the account is usually fine and the problem is the recipient data. If nothing moves and everything stays queued, return to verification and credits first.

Common reasons bulk SMS will not send

Account still blocked from sending. Email not verified, ABN not verified in Accounts, 2FA never finished, or a non-business email still under review. Duplicate mobile numbers can also block creating a new account if that mobile was used before.

Not enough credits for the whole batch. The send screen shows a credit counter per message and total. A long template with placeholders can cost more than a short alert. Buy credits under Billing before you retry a large group.

List problems. Typos, missing leading digits, mixed international formats, or contacts that should have been updated via import (imports match on phone number; import does not delete contacts).

Sender ID expectations. A Sender ID brands the outbound name. Recipients cannot reply when you use a Sender ID. That does not stop outbound send by itself, but it can look like “SMS is broken” if you were waiting for Inbox threads that will never arrive for those messages.

Scheduled timezone mix-up. Messages can be delayed with a specific timezone. If the local time looks “due” on your phone but the account timezone differs, the scheduled report is the source of truth. Cancel and reschedule if needed.

Compliance list hygiene. People who opted out appear in the unsubscribes report. Keep unsubscribe keywords and the opt-out message set under Account → General so future bulk sends stay cleaner.

FAQ

Why is my bulk SMS stuck on queued?

Queued usually means the message is still processing, waiting for its scheduled time, or blocked by credits or unfinished verification. Check Billing, Account verification, and the scheduled messages report before you build a second campaign.

Can I send before my ABN and email are verified?

No. SMSFlow requires 2FA to finish signup, email verification before send, and ABN verification from the Accounts area before send. Extra checks may apply for Gmail-style signups.

Do failed messages refund credits automatically in the article sense?

Treat credits as the billing unit shown in Billing and on the send preview. Review failed and no-receipt rows in Sent reports, fix the underlying issue, then send only the corrected recipients so you do not burn credits twice on bad numbers.

Why did nobody reply to my bulk campaign?

If you sent with a Sender ID, recipients cannot reply. View genuine inbound only from numbers you messaged without that limitation, and reply via Send SMS rather than from Inbox.

Can I edit a scheduled bulk SMS?

No. You can review and remove (cancel) scheduled messages, then create a new send with the right copy, list, and time.

Where do I buy more credits when sends stop?

Open Maintenance → Account → Billing for credits remaining, purchase credits, payment methods, and past invoices (view/download only). Use pricing for plan detail rather than guessing amounts.

How SMSFlow helps you diagnose sends

SMSFlow is a web platform for Australian businesses to send SMS to Australian numbers, manage contacts and groups, and review outcomes on the dashboard and Sent reports. You can paste numbers, select contacts or groups, import CSV recipients, preview credits, and schedule with a timezone. Account Billing shows credits; Account General is where verification-related business details, default sender, and Sender ID requests live.

It is not a full CRM, not a desktop or mobile app, and it does not offer custom workflows. That keeps the path simple: verify, fund credits, send to AU mobiles, then read statuses.

Conclusion

When bulk SMS is not sending, fix verification and credits first, keep the list Australian and clean, then trust dashboard and Sent statuses over guesswork. Scheduled jobs need the schedule report, not a second identical campaign.
